Now that you have many songs on this site, I think you need to improve the search engine to have it work better with criteria matching, using moods as well.
I've mentioned it before, and here I go again:
1. Assume that "Artist A" has set Mood = Powerful, because his song is "Powerful, Epic, Triumphant and Dramatic", but he can only set 1 mood, so he has chosen "Powerful", more or less randomly.
2. "Client C" starts a search. He selects multiple moods: "Epic, Triumphant, Dramatic".
He will then get a list of all songs that had set either
- Mood: Epic
- Mood: Triumphant
- Mood: Dramatic
That will probably be a lot of songs that had set one of these moods. All these songs will appear with apparently the same ranking, because artists can only set 1 mood, assuming that these songs have the same genre and style which is getting increasingly common as the song number grows on this site.
Even worse: Artist A's song will not show at all on the list, even if may actually be the best match! So Artist A's song that would match the client's need best will not show up. Instead a huge number of other songs shows up with a ranking that does not help the client very much as the matching criteria algorithm cannot do a good job.
To get search engine with acceptable performance, you need to have
- multiple moods at Artist Song Description page
- multiple moods at Client Song Description page
Then let the search engine find best matches based on multiple mood descriptions. It will do a much better job, the client will find what he needs much easier, and the artists will get a much better chance to have their songs found.
When I looked at my "search hits" on my songs, I have around 40 songs here. 80% of the songs have been found 0 times. Only 6 songs appears to have been found > 2 times, and 3 of those were featured - so they were not found from a client search. This is despite of the fact that I have spent a lot of time to add many keywords and tags into my song description fields, as adviced by the site admins to help up the hit rate. Apparently it did not improve.
So with 200 tracks in my portfolio (it will be a considerable effort to upload them here), I have a hard time to motivate to myself why I should upload any more tracks here. :-(
Best Regards
/Christian

Hi Christian,
Thank you for your valuable feedback and research. As I wrote you previously, we are actually in the middle of implementing some of your suggestions here as I write.
Our IT Dept. is in the middle of moving us to the Cloud and also implementing song watermark previews, which have been long awaited by some Artists.
One thing in your message that I would like to clarify is that currently we do not have a system that shows you how many times your songs has been played/auditioned/listened to.
What you are seeing when you write: "80% of the songs have been found 0 times. Only 6 songs appears to have
been found > 2 times, and 3 of those were featured - so they were not
found from a client search." - is not the number of times your song has been played/auditioned.
Instead it is the number of times that someone has gone to a Song Detail Page. This is rare because most people don't usually access these pages. This has nothing to do with the number of times your song is played or auditioned.
BTW, the Song Detail pages are only accessed when someone clicks on the actual name of your song in the left side of the song banner/rectangle.
So you can be sure that your songs are getting played much more than 0 times. Tracking song plays/auditions is another feature that is currently in the improvements pipeline.
