Announcing the Launch of Tune Society BETA!
April 13, 2009
Hey everyone! We are so excited (and tired) to finally be launching Tune Society BETA. Whether it’s beta or non-beta, we really don’t care. The bottom line is that it's FINALLY up and running! And we think it's going to be a great tool. But we need your feedback and help to make TuneSociety.com even better. There are so many cool ideas we want to implement. And we need you to help us do it.
Almost one year ago to date the idea of Tune Society was birthed over lunch at The Indian Palace, a wonderful little hole-in-the-wall restaurant on Academy. Was it the curry…the hot sauce? We don’t know. But we think whatever it was it was a GREAT idea!
Anyway, 12 months later we find ourselves launching a dream that we believe will help a lot of people...both artists and purchasers of production music.
The bottom line is that Tune Society is the first online, royalty-free, consignment based music library for production and media out there.
We truly hope that it helps redefine how music production is handled all over the world.
Many people want to know, “What is the real difference about Tune Society? There are other production music libraries out there that do the same thing, right? Why start another one?”
Well, we guarantee you that all of the other music libraries are NOT doing what Tune Society is doing.
The Users Decide.
With Tune Society we have taken the risk to let the users decide. What does that mean? Well, it means that the artists control their music. And it means that the purchasers of the production music have flexibility in their use of it.
On the artist side, we are letting anyone upload their music to Tune Society. The library is open to everyone. And if an artist ever feels uncomfortable with their music online, or wants to do something different with their music, they have the control to pull it “offline” whenever they want.
No other library is letting anyone upload music. And they’re definitely not allowing artists control of what they put up and when they want it up.
The Music Rating System: Find The Best Music Fast!
So, the next question is, “How does Tune Society control the quality of music? Not all the music being uploaded is going to be great. How do I find high quality music quickly so that I don’t waste my time?”
Great question. We obviously want Tune Society to be a useful place for producers, directors, film students, and people licensing music for media. But we also know that there are people all over the world who have different tastes, different likes and dislikes, and different ideas of what is “good music” and what is not.
So Tune Society has created a system that will let the best music rise to the top. And it is driven by the users.
The best music rises to the top.
There are three price levels to Tune Society music: $29.99, $59.99 and $99.99. When music is initially uploaded to TuneSociety.com it enters at the $29.99 level. From there artists have the ability to submit five of their songs for approval. If an artist is approved they become an “Approved Tune Society Artist” and all of their current and future music is instantly priced at the $59.99 level. Once a $59.99 song is downloaded at least 10 times it instantly jumps to the “Premium” $99.99 price level.
The same is true for $29.99 songs. If a $29.99 song is downloaded 25 times the individual song jumps to the $59.99 price level, and so on.
So, if someone is searching for music and they only want to listen to tunes at the $99.99 level, they may select that option in the Tune Society Search Engine.
In this way the more popular music rises to the top.
A Model That Relies Upon The Strength of The Web.
We want Tune Society to be based upon a model that truly relies upon the strength of the web. This may seem like an obvious idea. But most people are too fearful to “allow the users to decide.” They want to own, hedge, protect and control...instead of allowing the different personalities of the web (the world) direct and control the flow of their business. We are willing to risk on the side of the users to create a place where all music can be offered to everyone, all over the world.
From the 16 year old son of a farmer, who lives in Wichita, Kansas and scores music from his Mac laptop, to the experienced composer who utilizes orchestras and live musicians in multiple sessions, Tune Society is for both. Tune Society wants to err on the side of the artists and users who might not have a chance any other way.
For all we know there might be a producer in Finland or a web developer in S. Africa who is a perfect match for the young musician in Wichita, Kansas.
So, that is what we are excited about at Tune Society. And we hope that, as you use our site, and return...and as the music grows and multiplies, you will be as excited as we are about the exponential growth in music to choose from, and the flexibility you have to use it.
